Docks Furniture System

The designer Bjorn Meier together with Til Grosch bring to our attention a modular office furniture system that was designed for the manufacturer Ophelis. Considering that the office is as like a habitat as a workplace, they created this common furniture that is binding the need for privacy and a relaxing and focusing space on one side and the request for a permanent exchange of information and pervasive communications on the other. The lightness of the furniture system is given by the bench that is used as a base construction while the modules that are attached seem to be floating. By simple indentation, the side tables and the lamps may be docked becoming an integral part of the furniture. This system is meant to make it possible for people and areas to connect and make use of this connection. Therefore this concept seems to be “Islands in the office” that are quickly emerged. The challenge in the design of the docks was creating a piece of furniture that is able to create blurry zones, while being clearly designed.
